Who is the Farmington Federation of Integrated Support Staff and Teachers (FFISST)? The FFISST Local #3764 is the combined unions of Farmington CUSD #265’s Teacher’s and Support Staff.

The teachers of Farmington School District first organized in the 1970’s.  At that point the union was called the Farmington Education Association (FEA) and was part of the National Education Association (NEA). In 1977 the FEA became the Farmington Federation of Teachers (FFT) when it joined the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the Illinois Federation of Teachers (IFT).  As an addition to the teaching staff of Farmington schools, Yates City’s teachers, members of Yates City Education Association (YCEA), became part of the FFT with the school consolidation of the mid 1980’s.  As time passed the teachers’ union grew and in 1992 members of the support staff organized and formed a sister union called the Farmington Federation of Support Staff (FFSS).  Support staff members that joined the union consisted of the secretaries, clerks, library aides/clerks and custodians.  Later the district’s grounds keeper also joined the union.  In the beginning the FFSS shared local number #3764 with the teachers but negotiated their own contract, separate from the FFT.

In 2004 the FFT and FFSS voted to officially merge and work as one union.  In 2005 the combined union negotiated its first merged contract.  In September the union voted on its new name, The Farmington Federation of Support Staff and Teachers or FFISST, local #3764.

Today the FFISST has 110 members, consisting of teachers, secretarial/clerical employees, custodians, library aides/clerks and grounds keeper.  The FFISST is dedicated to providing a quality education and a safe learning environment for all students serviced by District #265 as well as a safe and equitable work place for all employees.
